New Assistant Professor and Provost’s Visiting Professor join the Department of Materials

by Sanjana Kakar

The Department of Materials is delighted to welcome two new colleagues.

Dr Jing Yang, Assistant Professor of Theory and Simulation of Materials

Dr Jing Yang joins us from the Max Planck Institute for Sustainable Materials in Düsseldorf, where she was a Postdoctoral Researcher and then a Humboldt Fellow in the computational materials design group. She studied Physics at the University of Peking and completed her PhD in Materials Science and Engineering at MIT, followed by a postdoctoral position at EPFL. Her research focuses on first-principles simulations of electrochemical surfaces and interfaces, applied to questions such as catalysis and corrosion. Her group will focus on the thermodynamics and kinetics of electrochemical systems through advanced multi-scale modeling.

Professor Nosipho Moloto, Provost's Visiting Professor

Professor Nosipho Moloto joins the Department of Materials for one year from the University of Witwatersrand, where she is a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry and Director of the ARUA Centre of Excellence in Materials, Energy and Nanotechnology. She studied Chemistry at the University of Zululand before completing her PhD at the University of Witwatersrand. Her research group works on the synthesis and characterisation of novel nanomaterials for water, energy, biomedical, and sensor applications. While at Imperial, she will focus on developing partnerships and research projects addressing sustainability challenges, as well as inspiring a diverse community

Jing and Nosipho are set to bring new expertise and energy to the Department, contributing to its research, teaching, and collaborative initiatives.
