Academia and international experts met to discuss the future of the electricity system

Members of the EPICS-UK team attended the 8th XM Forum in Cartagena, Colombia in August 2026.  The event focused on resilience and flexibility in evolving power systems, covering different challenges associated with the energy transition. This included topics such as power system stability, particularly with the increasing penetration of IBRs, resilience to extreme weather events – especially "El Niño" and its implications for Colombia's hydro dependent system, transmission expansion planning, electricity market design, and regulatory challenges. There were also discussions on the role of technology, cybersecurity, and AI in the energy transition.

G-PST, a global strategic partner to the EPICS centre played a key part in bringing some of the speakers to the event.

The event also had participants from system operators, energy ministries, regulators, and other organisations in the electricity sector across Latin America.
