Professor Nigel Graham  participated in an International Conference on âDevelopments in Water Treatment and Supplyâ in York during the 5-6 July 2005, organised by the EPSRC Network on Potable Water Treatment and Supply. Professor Graham is a founding member of the EPSRC sponsored Network and presented a paper entitled, âModelling Slow Sand Filtration â Recent Developmentsâ, which was co-authored by Dr Stephen Smith and Dr Luiza Campos.
IMPERIALâS FLOOD RESEARCH AT PONTBREN: A ROYAL VISIT
Recent floods in the UK have raised public and political awareness of flood risk, following major floods in 1998, 2000, 2001 and most recently the extreme 2004 event at Boscastle. One important unresolved question is the effect of agricultural management on flooding. As part of the EPSRCâs Flood Risk Management Research Consortium, the EWRE Section at Imperial is leading a national research programme focussing on changes to upland agriculture and its effects on flooding. The project is run in close collaboration with a farmersâ cooperative at Pontbren, Mid-Wales, the Welsh agency Coed Cymru, and the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Bangor. Prof Howard Wheater, research colleagues and the Pontbren farmers introduced the project to TRH The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary Celebrations of Coed Cymru on 13th July.

Welcome to Xiuchen Qiao who is an Associate Professor of Wuhan University of Technology, China. Xiuchen is working with Dr Chris Cheeseman  as a postdoc doing research work on "Novel cementing materials manufactured from waste incineration ashes" he is supported by an International Fellowship from The Royal Society.
Congratulations to Dr Adrian Butler and Dr Neil McIntyre who have both been promoted to Reader and Senior Lecturer respectively, in this years round of academic promotions
