While learning is identified as ‘a key component part of [students’] experience and makes a significant contribution to their wellbeing’ (Student Minds University Mental Health Charter, 2019: 9), our research found that many student participants felt there is actually a bi-directional relationship between mental wellbeing and their ability to ‘learn well’ here at Imperial. In other words, mental wellbeing plays a key role in enabling you to learn effectively and efficiently. However, this can be overlooked sometimes - especially when you’re busy, e.g. at pinch points such as when you’re working towards assignment deadlines or preparing for exams.

In this section, our resources focus on different aspects of mental wellbeing and the ways in which this can positively and negatively impact your learning – all rooted in Imperial students’ lived experiences. These insights are accompanied by practical advice and suggestions for ways to prioritise your physical, emotional and social wellbeing which, in turn, can help you continue developing as an effective learner throughout your degree.
