Export Control Compliance Statement

Imperial College London’s researchers, students and staff work together to advance knowledge and tackle some of the world’s most important challenges. These achievements are often realised through collaboration with partners across the UK and around the world.

As one of the UK’s most international universities, Imperial recognises that the global exchange of  knowledge, technology, data, expertise and ideas is fundamental to our mission. International collaboration enables discovery, innovation and impact. It also brings responsibilities.

Certain activities undertaken by universities may be subject to export control requirements designed to protect national security and support the United Kingdom’s international obligations. Imperial is committed to meeting those responsibilities while continuing to foster an open, collaborative and globally engaged environment for research, education and innovation.

Integrity, responsible international engagement and good governance are fundamental to how we pursue our mission. Export control compliance forms an important part of that commitment. The University is committed to complying with applicable export control legislation, licence conditions and other regulatory requirements, and to maintaining appropriate governance, procedures, training, specialist support and oversight to support compliance. These arrangements are intended to help identify, assess and manage export control risks and to support the responsible conduct of research, education, innovation and international collaboration.

We expect all members of our community whose activities may engage export control requirements to understand their responsibilities, follow applicable University procedures and seek advice where needed. Through shared responsibility, awareness and continuous improvement, Imperial seeks to ensure that its research, education, innovation and international partnerships are pursued responsibly, securely and in accordance with applicable legal and regulatory requirements.

This Statement sets out Imperial’s commitment to export control compliance and the role that members of the University community play in supporting that commitment.
