Novel technologies are technologies that uniquely combine existing components. They can be methods, systems, or devices developed using scientific knowledge. This section explores what novel technologies measure and they carry out the diagnosing process.

What is it measuring?

Antibiotic detection

Technology that detects how many antibiotics are currently in the blood, working to defeat the disease.

Host Biomarkers

Technologies that detect a person’s immune response to an infection through markers in their tissues and bodily fluids.

The Pathogens

Technologies that measure the amount of infection caused by pathogens such as bacteria and viruses.

How is it measuring?

Biosensor

Technologies that measure biological or chemical reactions by generating signals proportional to an infection.

Colourimetric

Technologies that detect a visible colour change due to a reaction between a pathogen and specific reagent. .

Digital Detection

Technologies that use techniques such as digital PCR to identify and quantify pathogens within a sample.

Lateral Flow Test

Detect the presence of infection in a liquid sample, and were mainly used for the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Mass spectrometry

Measures the mass-to-charge ratio (m/z) of molecules. This is a tool for rapid bacterial ID of pathogens in blood.
