The Data Analysis Working Group, part of the School of Public Health People & Culture Committee, aims to provide transparent and actionable data and evidence to drive equity and an inclusive culture across the School.

Current priorities

  1. We analyse and summarise People Function (previously Human Resources) and survey data to identify structural barriers and inequities (for example by gender and ethnicity) and to monitor representation, retention, and recognition across academic staff, research and teaching staff, professional, technical and operational staff, and students.
  2. We also contribute to research outputs to highlight biases and inequities and support practical improvements. All analyses are conducted in line with data protection requirements and are reported in a way that protects confidentiality.
  3. We collaborate closely with the other People & Culture workstreams, and we provide the evidence base required for School-level equity initiatives and reporting, including Athena Swan, helping to inform priorities, track progress, and support action.
  4. In parallel, we also promote visibility and recognition by supporting and organising initiatives and events that celebrate underrepresented voices in our community, for example, women in STEM, data science and statistics.
