Staff sustainability education programme

The Sustainability Hub, in partnership with the Grantham Institute, are offering two types of climate change workshops for Imperial staff.
Workshops are designed to be interactive, engaging, and empowering. Staff can choose to either attend a pre-scheduled workshop—which are being hosted throughout the year—or work with us to schedule a training tailored to your team.
Register your interest for either option via this form. More information about each workshop is below.
Workshops
The climate literacy programme is a half-day course for staff covering the foundational concepts of climate change: why it's happening, what impact it has on people and nature, and what we can do about it.
This training is an interactive lecture structure, supported by quizzes, breakout discussion and activities. It's an engaging course designed to help staff feel knowledgeable and empowered to take action, whether at Imperial or in their day-to-day.
Climate literacy sessions are open to all staff and postgraduate students. Full-day sessions with additional team building activities (such as a sustainability scavenger hunt) can also be organised at your team’s convenience.
Climate Fresk is a collaborative workshop that empowers participants to grasp and share the causes and effects of climate change through an interactive card game. The workshop spans 3 hours and helps attendees understand the big picture challenges surrounding climate change, followed by a guided discussion. Climate Fresks are open to all Imperial staff and students.
We encourage departments to run their own Fresk for their teams, using our facilitators, however we have some pre-set dates as open-to-all sessions.
Below are the scheduled workshop dates for 2025-26. Sign up to a session using this form.
Sessions are scheduled for South Kensington campus unless specified otherwise:
- Wednesday 22 October - Climate Fresk
- Wednesday 5 November - Climate Literacy in White City
- Wednesday 3 December - Climate Fresk
- Monday 12 January, 12pm - Climate Literacy
- Wednesday 4 February - Climate Fresk
- Thursday 26 March, 12pm - Climate Literacy
- Wednesday 22 April - Climate Fresk
- Thursday 2 July, 12pm – Climate Literacy
Further opportunities
The Grantham Institute offers staff and students the opportunity to learn the fundamentals of climate change through a self-paced online course.
From climate change science to adaptation and mitigation strategies, to climate politics - this course helps staff be better equipped to make balanced, informed and climate-conscious decisions every day. The course covers about 8 hours of learning across a 6-month window.

The Sustainability Hub is inviting lab technicians and managers to an exciting, interactive workshop designed to help participants implement sustainability best-practice for purchasing lab goods.
This in-person two-hour workshop will empower lab managers and technicians to:
- Understand sustainability implications of their supply chains and discover alternatives
- Implement Imperial's sustainable procurement policy
- Share and learn general sustainability best-practice from colleagues
The workshop is structured to provide time for lab teams to raise and discuss sustainability issues that they are facing, as well as hear from the Sustainability Hub regarding the Sustainable Lab Kit Fund. The topics covered will be of interest to labs looking to achieve LEAF or My Green Lab accreditation or increase their sustainability in general.
To register your interest and secure a spot in the Managing Sustainable Labs Workshop, please contact Zuzanna Rydz, Laboratory Sustainability Officer. The workshop will be run by the Sustainability Hub team.
