The “Theoretical Physics of Life” workshop aims to expand the scope of biological theoretical physics at Imperial College.
Supported by the Strategic Research Fund of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, the workshop aims to integrate the biological physics activities we have in the various departments, and to explore “difficult” questions such as how to do fundamental research in UK’s current funding climate and attract industry collaborations. Another goal is to start thinking about a new institute or centre dedicated to studying the physics of life, e.g. a doctoral training program.
During the day there will be short talks by Imperial/Crick-Institute group leaders, a keynote by Prof. Matthew Turner from Warwick, a presentation by an EPSRC portfolio manager, and presentations by a couple of companies. Companies will present their experiences in collaborating with academia, and discuss the scope of theoretical-physics approaches in industry-related research. There will also be a break-out session to discuss the above questions in small groups.
