ContrailMIP is a community-driven initiative and welcomes participation from researchers across atmospheric science, aviation, climate modelling, and related disciplines. Whether you develop models, analyse data, or contribute scientific expertise, there are many ways to get involved.
To participate in ContrailMIP, please contact the chairs of the Working Group most relevant to your research interests. Participation is subject to approval of the relevant Working Group chairs.
Participating in ContrailMIP
- Who can participate?
- What does participation in ContrailMIP involve?
- Can I participate in multiple Working Groups?
- I am unable to run experiments. Can I still participate?
- How can I get involved?
ContrailMIP welcomes researchers working on aviation contrail modelling and assessment, including expertise in:
- Contrail, plume, wake-vortex, and climate modelling
- Atmospheric physics, cloud microphysics, and radiative transfer
- Aircraft emissions, fuels, operations, and air traffic systems
- Model evaluation, intercomparison, and uncertainty quantification
The primary activities within ContrailMIP are:
- Developing protocols, experiments, and benchmark cases within the relevant Working Groups.
- Running experiments coordinated with other research groups.
- Analysing model outputs for each experiment.
- Contributing to scientific assessments and publications.
Yes. Many research topics span multiple stages of contrail evolution, and participants are welcome to engage with more than one Working Group where appropriate.
