Introducing the newest ARC facility: the Centre for Antimicrobial Optimisation (CAMO) laboratory

The Department of Health and Social Care invested £4M towards CAMO to create state-of-the-art research facilities and to strengthen the UK’s Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) research capability in:

  • Developing innovative approaches to tackling AMR;
  • Establishing a body of researchers with a wide range of skills and expertise relevant to AMR;
  • Encouraging external funding for AMR research.

CAMO brings together innovative, multidisciplinary research to optimise antimicrobial use and sustain the effectiveness of these drugs in the face of increasing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and the absence of new treatments.

ARC@Imperial research is made possible by state-of-the art facilities and resources at Imperial College London, Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and affiliated Centres.

The Imperial Centre for Translation and Experimental Medicine (ICTEM) is a £70 million centre opened in 2012 at the Hammersmith campus providing laboratory space for up to 450 scientists and housing a number of dedicated research facilities for evaluating and developing new medical treatments through clinical trials. dedicated clinical research facility for Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust.  The NIHR/Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Facility is a purpose-built facility on the ground floor dedicated to Phase I Clinical Trials and is partly funded by a £6.2m capital award from the Wellcome Trust. The CRF is staffed with experienced medical teams including GCP-trained research nurses and physicians, and operational staff fully trained in research governance and regulatory affairs. The Facility received a £10.9M renewal from 2012 to 2017 to continue its support for translational medicine studies.

The Imperial College Healthcare Tissue Bank and BRC Biobank house thousands of tissue samples from within the ICHT and externally.

Imperial College Clinical Imaging Facility was launched in early 2013. Established within the Department of Medicine, the Imperial College Clinical Imaging Facility (ICCIF or CIF) houses state-of-the-art PET and MRI facilities.
