Centre for Data-Intensive Physics and AI

Bringing together scientific computing, data science and AI expertise to support research across Imperial’s Department of Physics.

The Centre provides specialist support alongside access to departmental, University and national computing infrastructure. Researchers can contact the team for help planning, testing and running computational work, from pilot studies to established research programmes.

What we offer

Computing for research

Batch processing, storage, cloud and GPU resources for projects ranging from exploratory studies to established research programmes, on departmental systems and through national services.

Support from physicists and technical staff

Help choosing the right systems, setting up software and workflows, moving data, and advice on data analysis and machine-learning approaches.

A route to larger resources

Support with access to Imperial’s Research Computing Service and with applications to national infrastructures such as GridPP and IRIS.

How the computing services fit together

The Centre works with three layers of computing. We help projects find the right combination.

Departmental systems
Development, teaching and specialist work within Physics.

Imperial’s Research Computing Service
College-wide high-performance computing.

National infrastructures
Specialised or nationally allocated resources, through services such as GridPP and IRIS.
