The Centre for Data-Intensive Physics and AI is a Department of Physics initiative supporting data-intensive research, scientific computing, machine learning and AI across the Department’s five research communities.
The Centre coordinates departmental computing and technical expertise with access to Imperial’s Research Computing Service and national digital research infrastructure. It helps researchers plan computational work, develop robust workflows and move from successful pilots to sustained research programmes.
Our background
Imperial Physics has a long record of contribution and expertise in large-scale and distributed scientific computing, developed through international experiments and UK programmes including the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid, GridPP and IRIS. That experience now supports research across Physics.

Governance
The Centre is overseen by a steering group with representation from all five of the Department's research communities, reporting to the Department of Physics.
Partners
GridPP: through GridPP, Imperial contributes to LondonGrid, one of the UK's four regional Tier-2 centres supporting the Worldwide LHC Computing Grid.
IRIS is a cooperative, community-driven project that develops the digital research infrastructure for STFC-supported science. We host IRIS-funded resources and support IRIS projects.
UKRI/STFC funds the national programmes in which we participate.
The Research Computing Service provides Imperial's University-wide high-performance computing, with which we work closely.
