Accurate numerical models are essential for the correct estimation of structural responses under typical and complex loading conditions. We work in the development of finite element representations and material constitutive models for a number of materials and systems with a particular focus on resilience assessment under extreme loads. To this end, we have formulated a material model for wood under cyclic loads based on continuum damage mechanics and plasticity. Also, we have defined simplified modelling approaches that account for stress concentrations around dowels in finite element simulations and devised mechanics based approaches for joints and connections. We constantly improve these modelling techniques and aim to incorporate a growing number of advanced features to them.
