The Thomson Reuters-Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab is the School of Convergence Science's first strategic industry partnership. Hosted within the Department of Computing, the Lab bridges world-class researchers from academia and industry to tackle some of the most pressing challenges in AI.

Professor Jonathan Schwarz discusses AI safety on Sky News

Jonathan Richard Schwarz, Co-director of the Thomson Reuters- Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab and Visiting Professor at Imperial, was a featured guest on Sky News UK on 10 September 2026.

Jonathan discusses the dangers of AI and concentration of power. This is one of the central themes of our Lab, as we continue to focus on foundational AI research spanning safety, reliability and societal impact.

We are proud to share news of the Thomson Reuters-Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab's contribution to the technical report, Continual Learning of Frontier Models for Sovereign AI, as part of Thomson Reuters' role as a Foundational Research Partner.

Celebrating the launch of our partnership in May 2026

An in-person event to mark the launch of the Thomson Reuters–Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab took place on 18 May 2026 at Imperial's South Kensington Campus. Special guests included Steve Hasker (President and CEO of Thomson Reuters), Lord Thomson (Chairman of Thomson Reuters) and Kanishka Narayan MP (Minister for AI and Online Safety).
