The Thomson Reuters–Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab is a strategic partnership with Imperial's School of Convergence Science. Our lab brings together world-class researchers from academia and industry to tackle the most pressing challenges in AI deployment.

This collaboration gives our researchers the space and support to explore fundamental questions about how AI can and should work for society. Progress in this area depends on rigorous science, open inquiry and strong partnerships – ideals exemplified by the approach this lab will take. Celebrating the launch of our partnership in May 2026

An in-person event to mark the launch of the Thomson Reuters–Imperial Frontier AI Research Lab took place on 18 May 2026 at Imperial's South Kensington Campus. Special guests included Steve Hasker (President and CEO of Thomson Reuters), Lord Thomson (Chairman of Thomson Reuters) and Kanishka Narayan MP (Minister for AI and Online Safety).

Announcing the new Thomson Reuters–Imperial Frontier AI Lab

In December 2025 the School of Convergence Science agreed a five-year partnership with Thomson Reuters to create a joint Frontier AI Research Lab at Imperial. Our lab will pursue world-leading academic research in artificial intelligence, focusing on foundational challenges in safety and reliability, advancing frontier AI capabilities and researching AI's broader societal and economic impact. We will also train large-scale foundation models jointly with Thomson Reuters.
