IRAS Library

Overview

The Integrated Research Application System (IRAS) is where you will submit your formal application for ethical review. This applies to all clinical trials occurring in the UK, that are not assessed by other research ethics committees (such as the Imperial College Research Ethics Committee (ICREC)).

If you are not sure whether you need to submit an IRAS application, check in with your supervisor or your Chief Investigator. 

This library collates the most common types of IRAS application, and includes:

• Completed Project Filters for each form type - Check which boxes are ticked to see which form your project would need.
• Blank template forms - Downloadable in PDF format so you can prepare your answers prior to starting an application.
• Example completed forms - Some of the researchers here have been kind enough to share their completed forms with us as examples. If you would like to share a completed (and approved) form with us, get in touch with us here.

As there is a huge number of possible combinations of answers to the project filter questions that define the IRAS form you need to complete, we have only recorded a small number of the most common forms. If your project does not fall under one of the forms recorded here, you can use the IRAS system to generate the one you need by following these instructions:

• Create / login to your IRAS account at https://www.myresearchproject.org.uk/ 
• Select "My Projects"
• Select "New Project"
• Define a title for your project
• Complete the Project Filter questions that follow. Some questions will change depending on your answers.
• When complete, select "Navigate" at the bottom of the page
• Select "Print blank reference only PDF for the full project dataset". N.B. You must have pop-ups enabled in your browser to begin the download.
• Save
