Description of Research

This research will develop methods for the mathematical modelling of interdependent urban infrastructure networks, such as transport, energy or communication systems. The aim is to understand how a city's lifeline infrastructure systems behave under stress arising from natural and man-made disasters, for example flooding. A network-of-networks approach is being used to develop quantitative assessment of the risk of cascading failure across system boundaries.
