Students in a computer lab

Our mission is to deliver a world-class education and student experience.

We see our students’ relationship with us as a connected whole: from prospective student, to current student and then as an alumnus. We provide an environment and education experience that is curiosity-driven and explorative, led by enquiring minds, where our students develop a deep understanding of – and skills in – fundamental science.

During our students’ time here, we will ensure that learning and teaching innovations and developments are implemented in the context of their broader student experience, responding to changing needs in areas such as curricular and extra-curricular activities, wellbeing, community, and support services.

Our students enjoy a rich and vibrant student experience in and beyond their academic studies as part of a welcoming, inclusive community. Regardless of background, we want to create an environment where every student can thrive, by offering a high-quality experience to all our students.

Our focus on science, engineering, medicine and business provides an educational environment which is unique in the UK. One of the most distinctive elements of an Imperial education is that our students join a community of world-class researchers. They learn alongside leading experts, actively engaging with research and discovery in their chosen field. We see our students as part of our academic community, and their collaborations with staff lead to an exchange of ideas and engagement that lasts a lifetime.

By basing our education in research and evidence, we are enabling our students to become independent learners, developing highly applicable skills and attributes, with the curiosity and drive to continue learning throughout their lives. Their education experience is enhanced by technology, and provides opportunities for multidisciplinary working as well as collaboration in research, education, enterprise, engagement and outreach.

Our ambition is to build on our strengths and invest in opportunities for the full ‘life cycle’ of the student experience, from before they begin their studies, while they are Imperial students, and following graduation as members of our global alumni community. This will include building on the opportunities that the College’s distinctive capabilities and strengths present for our students; investing in the latest learning and teaching techniques, student support services and facilities; and creating streamlined processes.

Investing in our learning spaces • Students and staff have collaborated on a range of improvements to lecture theatres and classrooms as part of a long-term project to improve learning and teaching spaces across the College.

Students in the gym

Upgraded sports facilities • It is a priority for the College to support the wellbeing of our students, both inside and outside lectures and labs, so we have supported the development of a brand new gym, SW7, in our flagship sports centre, Ethos, on our South Kensington Campus.

Improved study and breakout spaces • The College has delivered a major project to improve the Central Library, including upgraded air conditioning, new furniture, AV and networking improvements, and three new group study rooms.

The Student Hub

Support services • The Student Hub brings together many of Imperial's key support services in one easily accessible place. Students can get advice and information on a wide range of aspects of College life, including admissions, finance, accommodation, exchange programmes and exams.
