Science for Humanity sets out our vision for Convergence Science: to work together in a radically new way and at scale on missions that will shape the future – in doing so we will harness novel opportunities and find solutions to some of the biggest challenges facing humanity. 

Our ambition is to create a new approach to scientific exploration where the integration of disciplines, convening of cross-sectoral partnerships and harnessing of new models of research stimulate fresh scientific progress and accelerate innovation. Convergence Science at Imperial is about harnessing our collective ingenuity as a powerful force for good and breaking down the silos within and beyond our university that limit progress.  

Imperial’s School of Convergence Science is designed to spark discovery and accelerate progress in four key mission-led areas: Health and Technology; Sustainability; Space, Security and Telecoms; and Human and Artificial Intelligence.

Health and Technology

Convergence science in health and healthcare, brings together business, engineering, physical sciences, life sciences and medicine to develop innovative ways to address clinical challenges. We believe this combination has incredible potential.

Human and Artificial Intelligence

AI will reshape every part of our life, and the future will lead to an increasing convergence of AI and Human Intelligence. Cooperation is crucial for complementing and augmenting human intelligence.

Space, Security and Telecoms

We aim to develop enabling technologies to enhance healthcare, AI, sustainability, and humanitarian activities through collaboration within and beyond Imperial. Imperial’s convergence in these areas will create advances for a safer, connected world.

Sustainability

Answering big intractable challenges, such as climate change, energy and sustainability, requires equitable interdisciplinary innovation from discovery science through to policy translation.
