Postdocs play an important role in helping to supervise students on a day-to-day basis. Many PhD students see postdocs as their 'go to person' and as such, they are an extremely valuable support.
Postdocs who support the supervision of PhD students can be appointed as Assistant Supervisors and be part of a student's supervisory team.

Imperial has a specific process to formally recognise the valuable contribution that postdoctoral research staff make towards the student-supervisor partnership.
To be formally recognised as Assistant Supervisors, postdocs would need complete the course:
- 'Introduction to being an Assistant Supervisor' delivered by the EDU.
- This course can be attended/completed either face to face or online.
- After it has been successfully completed postdocs can be formally recognised.
