As a researcher you possess many skills, technical and transferrable, but how are you identifying what skills you have and where your gaps are?

In this course, we will look at different skills areas that researchers might be required to develop and how can you build these with the time you have at Imperial.

You will also work in groups to identify the skills employers most commonly ask for. You will discuss what evidence you have that demonstrates that you have these skills and how you can develop them further.

This course will also include time to get feedback on your individual skills analysis and consider how you can build and develop your skills to reach your ambitions.

This course is open to Postdocs, Research Fellows & Research Degree Students.

Aims

  • To provide an overview of different areas and skills for researchers to develop for any career path.
  • To support reflection on areas for researcher development and what actions can you take to upskill.
  • To recognise core skills found in a range of job specifications.
  • To articulate and evidence core relevant skills.
  • To allow identification and evidencing of individual skills via a skills analysis and receive feedback on examples.
