Travel Grants and Small Grant Applications

Applying for grants is one of the most important, exciting, challenging and essential aspects in the career of a researcher. In this blended course you will discover how, where and when to search for funding. It will include how to prepare, write, and present an effective grant application. You will learn about the funding panels’ expectations and requirements to help guide you in what to include in the application.

This blended course has pre-course activities to complete in your own time and course activities to engage with during the live course: you will receive the credit by participating in all pre-course and course activities. The deadline for registration is 1 week before the live course to allow for completion of pre-course activities.

Pre-course activities (duration about 1h30) will prepare you for the live session. Live sessions are available on different dates as online interaction or as an in-person workshop (both 3hrs). 

The live sessions will support you in clarifying the learning and working in pairs/small groups to receive/give peer-feedback on the tasks you completed.

This course is open to Research Degree Students, Postdocs & Research Fellows.

• Recognise the different types and sources of grants.
• Develop and employ the best approach/strategy to successful grant writing.
• Help you to decide what to include and exclude in an application.
• Understand how a panel or referee will assess your grant application
