This one-day workshop, developed and delivered by the Centre for Academic English (CfAE), provides targeted input and training to speed up your writing process and help you write more effectively for publication. The training is personalised to help you learn how to identify the features of successfully published texts in your discipline.
This workshop is open to postdoctoral researchers, research fellows and research degree students who are currently writing for publication.
Aims
Upon completion of this workshop, you will have learned how to:
- use your reading as a tool to develop writing techniques for successful publication
- organise and connect information in your text to enhance readability and flow
- make language choices that improve the impact and clarity of your writing

Further Information
To make the most of this workshop, participants should be either currently preparing a manuscript for publication or planning to begin writing one soon. Workshop activities will involve analysing an article from a research journal that participants have already identified as a potential publication venue for their work.
This workshop is designed as a full-day experience, with each session building on the last. Participants gain maximum benefit from full attendance and should plan accordingly. The first hour of the workshop is critical set-up time, so participants must be able to start on time.
It is essential that participants use a laptop or other suitable device (not just a smartphone) in this workshop, as we will be working and collaborating through shared pages in Microsoft Team channels throughout the workshop. Participants must make sure they have Microsoft Teams installed.
