Meet space explorers in our blow-up planetarium, create your own galaxy next to real spacecraft, or hold a comet in your hand.

Celebrate the finale of Cassini’s mission to Saturn with a journey through ‘out of this world’ science at Imperial

Space Odyssey is the latest in Imperial College’s Fringe series of public evening events exploring science at its most engaging and fun. Based on the College’s ground-breaking research, the Fringe programme runs throughout the year to give our friends and supporters an opportunity to meet our researchers and find out more about our work.

A Space Odyssey will feature a range of talks, demonstrations and interactive science for you to enjoy:

  • Vote for your next solar system destination of choice with future missions lead Dr Adam Masters as he puts forward the case for the next great worlds to explore
  • Sit under a blanket of stars (whatever the weather) and journey around the night sky inside our Pop-up planetarium. You can register for one of these sessions in advance here
  • Hold a comet in your hand with our Rosetta team scientists as they discuss the discoveries that have revolutionised our understand of these frozen bodies
  • Make your own thin film paper spacecraft and learn all about CubeSats and the low cost, light weight revolution in space exploration with Computing’s Professor Julie McCann and Michael Johnson
  • Discover how we find exoplanets and explore their atmospheres with our Astrophysics group scientists
  • Make galactic art with our Astronomy Society as you learn your spirals from your bar galaxies with our amateur night sky watchers
