Professor Alan Fenwick OBE founded the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative (SCI) in the Department of Infectious Disease Epidemiology in 2002. The first mission of SCI is to bring treatments free of charge by 2020 to 300 million people who suffer from and are at risk of Neglected Tropical Diseases in sub-Saharan Africa. This goal will reduce the global disease burden of NTDs in sub-Saharan Africa and open the way to elimination of some diseases by 2030 in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. For five years SCI has been consistently rated as one of the top three cost-effective charities in the world by Give Well, and Professor Fenwick is a highly sought after lecturer around the globe.

Professor Fenwick will be travelling to Atlanta in November 2016 and looks forward to meeting with alumni and friends of Imperial to provide an update on the developments at the SCI.
