Currently, the way we grow, process and distribute food across the world is contributing to climate change, land and soil degradation, water shortages, and huge losses of biodiversity, alongside public health crises like obesity, vitamin deficiency and antibiotic resistance. Clearly, something has to change.
The creators of The Ecotarian, a group of students who have emerged from the Science and Solutions for a Changing Planet DTP, along with the Grantham Institute – Climate Change and the Environment, are delighted to co-host this panel discussion at Imperial College London in the hope of raising awareness on the critical problems facing our food system today.
This event will bring together policymakers, experts in food and farming, journalists, NGOs, producers and distributors to engage in an open debate, providing insight and exchanging opinions on what sustainable food production looks like, and how we can achieve it, along with the potential conflicts that may arise. We’d also like to explore the relative responsibilities and influence of government, industry and citizens in achieving a fair and green food system that lasts for future generations.
This event is open to anybody interested in food and sustainability, so whether you’re an aspiring ethical consumer or a green-fingered producer be sure to join in the debate.
