Law and Ethics in Paediatrics (Online)
28 February – 1 April 2022

This course will help you to develop a systematic understanding of medical law and ethics as applied to paediatric practice, with a critical awareness of current problems and new insights in the field.

This online course run over 5 consecutive weeks, consists of several synchronous sessions on a video-conferencing platform, where you will experience active learning, as well as weekly online tasks and related activities for you to complete individually or in small groups. These learning tasks will cover the cutting edge of issues in law and ethics in paediatrics. This is supported by case-based learning and practical guidance.  You are expected to conduct  7 – 10 hours per week of guided and self-directed asynchronous learning.

The synchronous online sessions will be delivered on the following dates*:

Friday, 4 March: 9.00 – 11.00
Live session theme: Philosophy club – Duty, utility, rights or virtue. How ought I to act?

Friday, 11 March: 9.00-11.00
Live session theme: Child protection, discussion case studies, students present case studies

Friday, 18 March: 9.00 – 11.00
Live session theme: Panel Discussion – anonymised cases presented by students for the panel to discuss

Friday, 25 March: 9.00 – 11.00
Live session theme: Ethics Committee and Debate re: limitations to treatment in Paediatrics

Friday, 1 April: Time tbc
Live session theme:  Coroner’s Court
