This event is designed to encourage Imperial College staff and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust staff to think innovatively about solutions to health-related problems and to answer the question “I’ve got a great idea – what do I do now?”.

Two Imperial College academic entrepreneurs will talk about their experiences in inventing and commercialising products for the healthcare sector. Experts from Imperial Innovations will also talk about the importance of protecting research, the process and rewards of commercialisation and how it can help bring your ideas to market. The talks will be followed by a networking lunch, giving people the opportunity to meet Imperial Innovations’ staff who will be able to answer any questions they may have on technology commercialisation.

11.00 – 13.00 Part One: Real life Imperial inventors’ experiences and how to bring ideas to market

Introduction

Professor Steve Bloom, Division of Investigative Science, Imperial College London

Professor Bloom will talk about his experiences as an inventor and how he formed Thiakis Ltd, a therapeutics spin-out company focused on the treatment of obesity.

Hugh Penfold, Healthcare Technology Transfer, Imperial Innovations

Hugh will discuss how Imperial Innovations can assist inventors to take their ideas to market Imperial Innovations, Intellectual Property – what it is and its importance for inventors, examples of products, and the processes of commercialisation – how Imperial Innovations can help you.

Professor Jo Hajnal, Chair in Imaging Science, Imperial College London

Professor Hajnal will talk about his experiences as an inventor and how he co-founded IXICO, a spin-out company to pioneer novel imaging and analysis technology for clinical and pre-clinical trials.

13.00 – 14.00 Part Two: Inventions clinic and lunch

Buffet food will be available and Imperial Innovations staff will be on hand to answer questions
