Did you know that most volunteer Wikipedia editors are male, and that there are fewer and less extensive articles on Wikipedia about women and issues important to women? There are thousands of female scientists who meet Wikipedia’s standards for notability, including many we work with every day at Imperial, but don’t yet have a page.

Come and help us add more notable women to Wikipedia at our NHLI Wikithon on Microsoft Teams on the 26th June 1.30-4.30pm. Dr Jess Wade will talk about why moving towards equal gender representation on Wikipedia is essential for equality in science and Dr Alice White will give you the technical know-how to become a fully-fledged wiki-editor.

Schedule:

1.30pm Professor Anna Randi will introduce the session

1.35pm Dr Jess Wade OBE, Physicist in the Department of Chemistry and STEM Ambassador, will talk about why moving towards equal gender representation on Wikipedia is essential for equality in science. Jess spoke at our 2019 NHLI Athena Swan Lecture on How should we celebrate and support diversity in STEM

1.45pm Dr Alice White, Wikimedian in Residence at the Wellcome Trust will then give an instruction session on how to become Wikipedia editors

2.10pm The session will finish with chance to use your newfound editing skills to create live content on Wikipedia
