Following the recent publication by the Royal Society of the Nuclear cogeneration: Civil nuclear energy in a low-carbon future policy briefing, we are delighted to invite you to a webinar and Q&A with lead author Professor Robin Grimes and Dr Mike Bluck, Director of the Centre for Nuclear Engineering.

The briefing sets out how future nuclear projects can complement renewables and help the UK meet its net-zero carbon emissions pledge by 2050 by harnessing surplus energy to heat homes, produce hydrogen, and decarbonise industry. The report highlights small modular reactors (SMRs) as an area of particular interest. The next generation of SMRs – known as Advanced Modular Reactors (AMRs) – are expected to generate temperatures in excess of 600°C which are required by some of the hardest to decarbonise processes, such as chemical production.

In this webinar, Professor Grimes and Dr Bluck will discuss the future role of nuclear energy, the opportunities nuclear cogeneration presents and the outlook for nuclear energy in the UK. You are invited to take part in the discussion during the Q&A.

Please note: This event is open to Imperial College staff and students only.
