Please join us for a special series of conversations to showcase our inspirational luminaries’ careers and to share lessons learned with the next generation of future stars. Imperial has amazing women who are leaders in their fields and provide inspiration to many inside and outside the College. When they talk about their research, teaching, and societal engagement, they inspire and motivate others.

Hosted by Professor Alice P. Gast, our next conversation will be with Professor Maggie Dallman OBE, Professor of Immunology and Associate Provost (Academic Partnerships), Vice-President (International), and Priya Pallan, Community Engagement Manager. Professor Dallman will speak about her breakthroughs, innovations and discoveries throughout her career, and Priya will share her dreams and aspirations as they discuss life experiences and the teachable moments that shape who we are and what we do.

Professor Maggie Dallman OBE

Maggie Dallman is Vice President (International), Associate Provost (Academic Partnerships) and Professor of Immunology. In the former roles, Maggie is the academic lead on the College’s International Relations and Societal Engagement Strategies.

Maggie’s research focuses on over-vigorous or inappropriate immune responses, which can lead to debilitating or life-threatening conditions such as autoimmunity as well as rejection of transplants.

Maggie began to see the real value of engaging in public debate and dialogue about science when she started to speak to organ transplant patients about her research – and found out that what they needed differed from what she thought they needed! She is also passionate about giving young people from all walks of life the opportunity to reach their potential, believing that education is central in achieving this goal. In the latter part of Maggie’s career this has become an increasingly important part of her contribution.

Priya Pallan

Priya is responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with local residents and community organisations around the White City Campus. She has helped develop and implement a wide-ranging programme of participation and engagement which brings the college and community together in meaningful and mutually beneficial ways. She has recently completed a secondment with Hammersmith and Fulham Council, as Strategic Community Engagement Advisor, to share the College’s learnings and experiences of developing its community engagement practice in White City.

Recipient of the 2020 President’s Leadership Award for Excellence in Societal Engagement, Priya joined Imperial in 2016 from Brunel University London, where she was the Engagement Manager in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office. Priya studied Law (undergraduate) and International Relations (masters) and served both as President and Vice-President of the Students’ Union.
