Imperial College staff and students are invited to a lunch and learn seminar to hear about Hammersmith & Fulham Council’s strategy to reduce the borough’s carbon emissions to net zero by 2030 and tackle the climate and ecological emergency. The seminar is by the Council’s Climate and Ecology Unit.

The Council’s Climate and Ecology Unit will provide a 25 minute presentation on the strategy and action plan followed by Q&A, led by Dr Neil Jennings, Partnership Development Manager at Grantham Institute- Imperial.

The event will be of interest to anyone working on climate mitigation, adaptation and nature recovery – whether on buildings, energy, transport, green space, food or behaviour change – and indeed anyone living or working in the local area.

Context:

In 2019, Hammersmith & Fulham Council pledged to cut greenhouse gas emissions from the borough to net zero by 2030. H&F’s climate and ecology strategy sets out the route to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 for both the borough and H&F council operations. Its goal is a clean and sustainable future in which human activity works to the benefit of all people and the environment. It seeks a safe climate for future generations, along with rich ecosystems that support people and nature, and the best possible health, wellbeing and quality of life for all our residents. Having recently drafted this ambitious strategy for the borough, the Council would like feedback, scrutiny and academic input to ensure we are on the right path to decarbonising the borough. The action plan sets out what the Council and wider borough should do to reach net-zero.

The Council are keen to host research opportunities to students and fellows to help embed and deliver on its climate and ecology ambitions. H&F is able to provide a real-world environments, support and access to showcase and pilot innovation for researchers.
