This service has some rare musical delights. The anthems by Sarah Quartel and Bo Hansson are not widely sung at Evensong in the UK. The musical setting for the service is composed by Maria Portela who is studying Bio-engineering at Imperial.

We also have an ‘old favourite’ – the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis by Stanford.

Music for the Service

The opening Anthem is ‘Sing my Child’ by the contemporary Canadian composer Sarah Quartel.

The Verses and Responses are by Maria Portela (a current student at Imperial College).

The musical setting for the Psalm is by Maria Portela.

The music for the Canticles, the Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis, is by the Irish composer Charles Stanford (1852-1924) from his setting in B flat. Stanford was also one of the founding professors of the Royal College of Music.

The closing Anthem is ‘Credo’ by Bo Hansson (1943-2010), a Swedish composer best known for his instrumental music.
