The Department of Aeronautics is the UK’s leading Aeronautical Engineering Department and one of the largest in respect of research breadth and volume in Europe.

Our research ranges from fundamental to applied and covers aviation, space, wind energy, robotics, bioengineering, and more.

This event aims to showcase our latest research through a mix of posters and panel sessions led by our experts.

We look forward to meeting attendees and sharing our work with the aerospace community.

 

Research Showcase Itinerary

1:30-2:30pm

  • Welcome by the Head of Department
  • Keynote by James McMicking, VP for Strategy at ZeroAvia


2:30-3:00pm

  • First round of poster sessions


3:00-3:45pm

  • Panel session 1: Net zero flight – A broad discussion on next-generation aircraft technologies to enable flight with net-zero emissions.
  • Speakers: Dr Isabella Fumarolla, Dr Sylvain Laizet, Dr Sang Nguyen, Professor Silvestre Pinho
  • Panel session 2: Space technologies – An update on our latest research to bring about affordable access to space.
  • Speakers: Dr Davide Amato, Danielle O’Driscoll, Farbod Faraji, Dr Matthew Santer


3:45-4:15pm

  • Second round of poster sessions
  • Facility Tours (Additive Manufacturing Facilities, Flight Arena, Composites Manufacturing, T1 and T2 Wind Tunnels, 10×5 Wind Tunnel). Tours are limited and will be allocated on a first come, first served basis. Sign up sheets will be located at the Information Desk.


4:15-5:00pm

  • Panel session 3: Autonomous Systems & Digital Aviation – A discussion panel with some of our controls, sensors and systems experts.

  • Panel session 4: Data-centric aerospace – An update on the growing role of data-driven techniques in aerospace technology.
