The first Women in STEM seminar of 2023 will be themed around conservation. We will kick off the event by showing a special message from Dr Jane Goodall about her incredible work and experience as a woman in STEM. Following that, our inspiring panellists will discuss their careers in conservation, the challenges they have faced being an underrepresented gender in STEM, and future trends and opportunities in the field. The panel discussion will be followed by a Q&A from the audience.
Our panelists will include:
Dr Bonnie Waring (Chair) – Senior lecturer at the Grantham Institute
Patricia Zurita – CEO of BirdLife International, the world’s largest nature conservation partnership of civil society organisations
Professor Heather Koldewey – Bertarelli Foundation’s Marine Science Programme Lead , Founder of Project Seahorse
Dr Caroline Howe – Senior Lecturer, Centre for Environmental Policy
The seminar will be followed by refreshments and the opportunity to chat with our speakers.
Women in Imperial Week: The week aims to celebrate the Imperial female community and highlights the support that is available. The team put an Imperial spin on the event, and create a series of events that fit our community. There are usually lectures, panel discussions, training, and everything in between. This year there is a special focus on climate change and its impact on inequality.
Women in STEM series: The seminar series gives Women in STEM a platform to celebrate their research and professional work and discuss some of the challenges they may have faced in their career. This seminar series brings their stories to a wider audience of not just women, but men as well, and encourages participants to reflect on their experiences. This seminar series includes a mix of speakers at different career stages and across academia and industry.
