Treatments for Dengue: Are they needed and how could we achieve it?
Dengue is the most widespread mosquito-borne infectious diseases, which is reaching increasing number of cases and burden due to climate change and people movement. Despite progress in vaccines and vector control (namely Wolbachia), there is still no treatment for dengue. There are many reasons for this important public health gap, including its acute duration and, specially, lack of funding. There is, however, growing interest in this disease and good prospects for delivering a treatment. DNDi (Drugs for Neglected Diseases initiative) have joined with organizations from endemic countries to create the Dengue Alliance, which aims to deliver effective and affordable treatments against dengue within the next 5 years, with perspectives and plans shared in this presentation.
