The ICB CDT has arranged for a Responsible Research and Innovation refresher course in Bioethics. This refresher course is for ICB CDT students in years 2-4 of the CDT training programme.
This course is compulsory for CDT funded students, as it forms part of the core CDT transferrable skills training.
Exploring Ethics in Research
This 90-minute session will introduce students to how our ideas about what is ethical impacts on our personal and professional lives. Using interactive and reflexive activities, students will be challenged to think about their own ethical frameworks, where they come from, the barriers to ‘doing good’ or making ‘good’ decisions in research, and how we might navigate differences with others we work with. This content will then be applied to real world case studies.
At the end of the session, students will:
- deepen their understanding of ethical frameworks and their application to research;
- identify barriers and biases in ethical decision making;
- and develop strategies to navigate ethical differences in diverse teams.
This session will be run by Professor Melissa Butcher, Programme Director at Cumberland Lodge:
Professor Melissa Butcher is responsible for managing Cumberland Lodge’s programme development and implementation. She has over two decades’ experience leading major programmes and international research projects in the UK, Europe, and Asia, focusing on how cultural change is managed, social conflict, diversity, and inequality.
