The CRUK Convergence Science Centre is a partnership between Imperial College London and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR). We aim to bring together researchers from different disciplines across both institutions to develop innovative ways to address challenges in cancer research to benefit patients.
This seminar series brings together speakers from Imperial and ICR to present their research and how they use convergence science to answer cancer-related questions.
This session will focus on AI in medical imaging and be chaired by Prof Paul French, Department of Physics, Imperial College London.

Look into your heart: From image to mesh
What does your heart look like? How does it beat? Although we are in an era when AI can generate unlimited imaginable images, most of these images are natural images from outside world. We cannot easily look into our body and capture a variety of heart images across large populations. In this talk, I will describe my research that leverages the UK Biobank dataset to develop AI algorithms and curate a population-level dataset describing the heart shape and motion.

Combining Bayesian Methods and AI for Improved Heterogeneous Imaging Biomarker Estimation in Whole-Body MRI of Advanced Prostate Cancer
Reliable imaging biomarkers are essential for precision medicine, yet current methods offer limited tools for quantifying measurement uncertainty, especially for heterogeneity-based metrics of treatment response in advanced cancers. In this talk, I introduce a Bayesian framework that evaluates biomarker precision under far more flexible statistical assumptions. By integrating probabilistic deep learning with Hamiltonian Monte Carlo sampling, the approach captures complex hierarchical data structures and provides full uncertainty estimates for key population-level biomarker parameters.
