Led by Dr Kayla Schulte, this hands-on session will be highly discussion-based and practical. It will include:

  • Real-world scenarios (e.g. wood burning, Low Emission Zones, clinical conversations)
  • Insights from colleagues across social & behavioural science, anthropology, psychology, healthcare, and environmental data
  • Opportunities to reflect on and practise how these conversations unfold
  • Practical ways to navigate (not “win”) difficult conversations and simple approaches you can apply in one-to-one interactions (with colleagues, stakeholders, communities, etc.)

Workshop participants will leave with:

  • A set of practical principles/tools for navigating conversations about air quality and health
  • Having contributed to collective insight that will be shared more widely (e.g. through the Air Quality Communications Network)

Dr Schulte will be joined by fellow Imperial colleagues and ECRs Nicole Cowell and Daniella Watson, as well as former NHS NEL Net Zero Manager Rebecca Waters and lecturer in STS at UCL, Karl Dudman, who bring complementary expertise to this topic.
