We are pleased to welcome Professor Tom Bird, Consultant Hepatologist and Professor of Hepatobiliary Cancer at the University of Edinburgh, to speak at our upcoming seminar.
Professor Bird’s research and clinical practice focus on hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the most common form of liver cancer. Following a PhD in liver regenerative biology at the University of Edinburgh, he has established a distinguished career bridging fundamental cancer biology and clinical translation. He leads a basic science research group at the Cancer Research UK Scotland Institute, where his team investigates the mechanisms underpinning HCC and develops precision medicine approaches by comparing preclinical models with human cancer.
Based at Edinburgh’s Royal Infirmary and working closely with the Scottish Liver Transplant Unit, Professor Bird is also involved in a number of early-phase clinical studies focused on HCC therapies and early detection strategies. His work aims to translate biological insights into improved outcomes for patients with liver cancer.
