Overview

This course will provide you with a critical appreciation of aspects of management of seriously unwell children following their acute presentation and initial care. This will include the stabilisation of the child for safe transportation and application of evidence-based medicine and leadership in critical care. You will investigate and appraise the delivery of paediatric critical care including the long term physical and psychological consequences.

The course is part of a range of short courses spread throughout the academic year which are available both to students who are enrolled on the MSc Applied Paediatrics course and as stand-alone CPD programmes for all healthcare professionals.

For delegates who have successfully completed the course, the learning outcomes will be:

  • Formulate an evidence-based plan for the stabilisation of a critically unwell child and subsequent stabilisation prior to transportation.
  • Critique the management of specific clinical presentations to formulate a clear evidence-based approach to their future management.
  • Critically appraise the long-term consequences and impacts of critical care.
