About Hosted Programmes

What is a Hosted Programme at Imperial?

A Hosted Programme is a bespoke, immersive, and structured academic experience delivered on Imperial's campus in London for visiting university cohorts. Co-designed with your institution, each programme is built around your students' academic level, discipline, and learning objectives — and delivered by Imperial's world-leading faculty.

It is not a study tour or exchange; every programme is academically led with specific learning outcomes, and assessed where appropriate. Students leave with skills and perspectives they can apply immediately, along with an Imperial College London Certificate of Participation — a highly recognised credential from one of the world's top-ranked universities.

What topics can a Hosted Programme cover, and can themes be combined?

Programmes can be built around a wide range of themes, including:

  • Technology, Data Science & AI
  • Sustainability, Climate & Environment
  • Finance & FinTech
  • Leadership & Communication
  • Marketing, Innovation & Strategy
  • Healthcare & MedTech
  • Regulation, Risk & Policy
  • Robotics & Applied Quantum Computing

Themes can be combined to create interdisciplinary programmes (e.g. AI & Leadership, Sustainability & Finance), tailored to your cohort's specific needs and academic goals.

Who are Hosted Programmes designed for, and what is the minimum cohort size?

Programmes are available for:

  • Undergraduate students
  • MSc students
  • MBA & EMBA students
  • Doctoral / PhD researchers

Each programme is tailored to the academic level and discipline of the cohort — the experience for an MBA cohort will look very different from one designed for undergraduate engineers. The minimum cohort size is 25 students, with no fixed maximum — larger cohorts can be accommodated and may benefit from a more varied programme structure.

Can we combine more than one topic in a single hosted programme?

Programmes are delivered in English as standard. Translation and interpretation services can be arranged at an additional cost for cohorts who require content in other languages. Please discuss your requirements at the enquiry stage.

How does the co-design process work, and how long does it take?

The process begins with a listening session — our team will meet with you to understand your institution's goals, your students' academic profile, and the outcomes that matter most to you. From there, our academic and programme teams build a bespoke curriculum, schedule, and faculty plan, which is presented to you as a detailed proposal before any commitment is made.

The co-design process follows four steps:

  1. Discovery: Understanding your needs, cohort, and objectives
  2. Co-design: Building the curriculum and programme structure with you
  3. Delivery: Your students arrive at Imperial for an immersive on-campus experience
  4. Evaluation: Measuring outcomes and gathering feedback together

We typically recommend allowing 8 to 16 weeks from confirmed interest to delivery, depending on programme complexity. Shorter, simpler programmes can sometimes be turned around more quickly. We encourage you to get in touch as early as possible so we can plan effectively together.

Where are programmes delivered, and can they be offered online or in a hybrid format?

Programmes are primarily delivered at Imperial's South Kensington or White City Campus in London — situated in the heart of the city's cultural district and surrounded by the Natural History Museum, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the Science Museum, and Hyde Park. The campus provides an inspiring environment that combines world-class academic facilities with the energy and opportunity of one of the world's great cities.

While the on-campus experience is a key part of the programme's value, hybrid or fully online formats can also be arranged where required. Please discuss your preferences at the enquiry stage.

What certification do students receive, and is the programme credit-bearing?

All students who successfully complete a Hosted Programme receive an Imperial College London Certificate of Participation. This is not a degree-level qualification, but it carries significant recognition as a credential from one of the world's top-ranked universities.

Programmes are not credit-bearing by default, though some partner institutions choose to formally recognise participation within their own academic credit frameworks. We are happy to provide supporting documentation to assist with this process.

Can Imperial provide visa invitation letters for students?

Yes. Imperial can provide a letter of invitation to support student visa applications. Please note that:

  • Visa requirements remain the responsibility of the partner institution and their students
  • Invitation letters can only be issued once the programme agreement is confirmed
Can Imperial help arrange accommodation for visiting students?

Depending on the time of year, students may be able to stay at Imperial's own accommodation. Alternatively, our programme management team can recommend local hotels near the South Kensington/White City Campus and may be able to arrange preferential rates. Accommodation is not included in the standard programme fee but can be arranged as part of the overall package.

What support does Imperial provide throughout the programme?

Every Hosted Programme is supported by a dedicated Imperial Programme Manager who coordinates all aspects of the experience, including:

  • Pre-arrival logistics
  • On-campus scheduling
  • Faculty liaison
  • Catering arrangements
  • Post-programme evaluation

Your institution will have a single point of contact throughout the entire process.
