Examining a frog

An unprecedented number of new pathogenic fungi and variants of extant strains are emerging to cause disease in animals and plants, putting the resilience of wild and managed ecosystems in jeopardy.  Our laboratory studies emerging fungal infections by using an evolutionary framework to determine the biological and environmental factors that are driving epidemics and epizootics of novel fungal disease across human, wildlife and plant species. We are focused on developing genomic, epidemiological and experimental models to in order to tackle the rate and scale of emerging fungal infections that we are witnessing, to propose new disease control measures and to influence policy.
