Risk assessments are required for all biological work carried out in the flow cytometry facility.
Work can be carried out at Containment Level 1 (low risk cell lines and organisms, and fixed CL2 samples) and Containment Level 2 (live human samples, Hazard Groups 2 and 3 derogated pathogens and GMO Class 2 organisms), including cell sorting at Containment Level 2. Samples with risk of airborne pathogens are not allowed in the analysers, and are only allowed in the cell sorters with Class II biosafety cabinets.
Imperial currently uses the CoreStream platform to manage risk assessments, including individual applications for Lone Working / Out of Hours. Other risk assessment formats can also be accepted for the external users without direct access to Corestream.
Please consult the general biological safety guidelines, and contact your lab managers and facility staff to clarify specific biosafety questions and decontamination procedures.
