Mass Spectrometry

The IIPTC is a state-of-the-art mass spectrometry training and research facility to support metabolic phenotyping. It features UHPLC separation techniques and mass spectrometers that are capable of analysing a wide variety of biologically relevant compounds. Its focus is to provide excellence in training in the utility of LC-MS for metabolite phenotyping and in the operation of LC-MS instrumentation to enhance the scientific training of researchers in the field. The facility houses high resolution accurate mass instrumentation for the discovery and identification of unknown biomarkers and tandem quadrupole nominal mass instruments for the highest sensitivity quantification.
NMR

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance

The IIPTC has three state-of-the-art Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) instruments operating at 600 MHz and two robots for sample preparation, in collaboration with the NIHR-MRC National Phenome Centre. These systems are optimised for the metabolic profiling of biofluids and are equipped with SampleJet systems which ensure minimal sample degradation prior to data acquisition and maximise the total throughput of the data. The focus of the IIPTC is to provide comprehensive hands-on training for standardised 1H NMR-based metabolic profiling, as well as more complex two dimensional NMR experiments for structural elucidation of biomarkers.
