The judges have chosen the prize winners in our first ever Mechanical Engineering photo competition.

This past summer, our department ran a photography competition to provide an opportunity for people in the department to showcase their photography work, and to celebrate the visual side of engineering.

The winning photographers are a mix of students and staff. First prize in the category “Everyday Engineering in London” was awarded to Non-Destructive Evaluation Tehnician Gabor Gubicza, for an image of the floating Serpentine sculpture “The London Mastaba” as it was being built.

PhD student Wuquan Cui, from the Imperial Hazelab group, won the category “Mechanical Engineering at Imperial” with a photograph showcasing Hazelab fire research in Indonesia.

Undergraduate student Sanghoon Lee won first prize in the category “Engineering on your Travels”, for a photo of a firefighting helicopter taken in Incheon, South Korea.

The winners were chosen by recent graduate Graham Davies (Manager of the ICU Photosoc Darkroom), Emeritus Professor David Ewins (founding member of Imperial’s Photographic Society) and photographer Honey Salvadori. You can find a full list of winners and see all the entries on our webpages.
