14th ABPP Conference 2025

Imperial College London alongside the Francis Crick Institute played host to the 14th International Activity-Based Protein Profiling (ABPP) Meeting.

In early April, we had the privilege of hosting the 14th International Activity-Based Protein Profiling (ABPP) Meeting at The Francis Crick Institute and the Department of Chemistry at Imperial College London. This year’s event marked a period of sustained expansion for the ABPP community, reaching maximum capacity well ahead of the early bird registration deadline.

With over 180 attendees from academia and industry spanning the Americas, Europe, Africa, Asia, and Oceania, the meeting featured more than 30 talks and 80 poster presentations. Wide-ranging and inspiring scientific discussions brought home the extraordinary progress of the field over the span of 14 ABPP meetings, from its beginnings in activity-based probe design, to highly sophisticated technologies for global amino acid profiling and drug discovery, and clinical trials of drugs and surgical imaging tools discovered thanks to ABPP.

The main programme spanned 3 days at The Francis Crick Institute, with plenary lectures from Emily Balskus, Matthew Bogyo, and Ben Cravatt, along with 23 invited speakers, 7 selected talks, and 10 poster flash talks. Two engaging poster sessions rounded out a dynamic schedule of presentations and networking.

The Early Career Researcher (ECR) Day, held at MSRH at Imperial White City Campus, featured plenary speaker Kim Bonger and two insightful panel discussions:

  • “Working at a Start-up” (Chaired by Sam Cruickshank; panellists: Ana Gomes, Sioned Jones, Archie Wall, Gabe Simon)
  • “Careers in Academia and Industry” (Chaired by Elena De Vita; panellists: Kim Bonger, Matt Child, Hanna Budayeva, Jo Redmond)
The day also included 14 selected ECR talks, showcasing the next generation of talent in the field.
