Queens Tower Lion with Christmas presents

We’ve got you covered!

The Careers Service will be taking a short pause over the Christmas period, in line with Imperial’s closure days, from Tuesday 23 December to Friday 2 January (inclusive).

But don’t worry; while we’re away (and enjoying some mince pies), you’ll still have plenty of resources to keep your career plans on track. From online tools to helpful guides, everything you need to explore opportunities, polish your CV, and prepare for the year ahead is just a click away.

Explore our careers website

There’s a wealth of resources waiting for you on the Careers Service website, perfect for planning your next steps.

Perhaps you’d like to start with our Plan your career section, where you’ll find advice on exploring your options, starting a business, or considering further study. Not sure which direction to take? Check out What do Imperial graduates do? and What can I do with my degree? for inspiration.

Or maybe you’re looking for practical experience. Our Jobs and experience pages are a great starting point when searching for industrial placements, work experience, volunteering, or jobs. You can also explore exclusive opportunities such as the Professional Project Fund, Work Shadowing, and the SME & White City Internship Schemes.

Alternatively, if you’re looking to perfect your applications, our Applications and interviews section is packed with guidance and tips on CVs, cover letters, assessment centres, references, and much more.

Exclusive online resources

Through the Careers Service, you have access to a variety of additional online tools to support you on your professional journey.

Are you an international student or thinking about exploring opportunities abroad? Take a look at Student Circus, a job search portal designed for international students in the UK, and GoinGlobal, which offers country-specific careers information to help you plan your next steps.

Preparing for interviews? Practise your skills with Shortlist.Me, a platform that lets you rehearse video interviews in a realistic setting.

Want to learn new tools or develop professional skills? LinkedIn Learning gives you access to thousands of instructional videos taught by industry experts.

Looking for quick tips? Check out Career Snapshots, our playlist of bite-sized careers advice videos, or browse the Careers Video Library, which includes recordings of events hosted by the Careers Service.

Online publications

When working on your application documents, be sure to check out our CVs, Cover Letters and Personal Statements guide. It’s packed with examples and tips to help you create strong documents for a variety of scenarios.

You can also access a wide range of external publications online for further insights. Explore the Inside Careers guides for professions such as chartered accountancy, patent attorneys, actuarial work, insurance, and pensions. Interested in STEM? The Gradcracker Toolkit is a great resource for employers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths.

Thinking about specific sectors? Have a look at TARGETjobs publications covering consulting, engineering, IT, law, property, teaching, and more. Curious about top employers? Browse the Rate My Placement guide, the JobCrowd Top 50 Graduate Employers, and The Times Top 100 Graduate Employers.

Printed copies of some of these publications are available from the Careers Service. Feel free to pick one up in the new year during our opening hours.

Don’t forget…

While it’s great to plan and make use of these resources, remember that the festive season is also a time to relax and recharge. Taking a proper break will help you return refreshed and ready to embrace new opportunities in 2026. So, enjoy some well-deserved downtime, celebrate with friends and family, and come back energised for what’s next.

Finally, we wish you a joyful festive season and look forward to seeing you in the new year!
