The group is a lead member of the Research Centre in Nondestructive Evaluation (RCNDE). The Centre was formed in 2003 and is based at a consortium of universities led by Imperial College and University of Strathclyde. The other founder members of the consortium are the Universities of BristolManchesterNottingham and Warwick. RCNDE is now operating on a renewed contract from EPSRC for 2014-2020.

The Centre aims to combine innovative technical excellence with industrial applicability. It functions as an industrial club and research projects of interest to club members are eligible for a further £1.1M pa matched funding from EPSRC. Current industrial members are Rolls-Royce, Airbus, dstl, RWE, Shell, BP, Alstom, SERCO Assurance, Petrobras, EDF, E.ON, Tenaris, and HSE. The Centre also offers Engineering Doctorates.
