Horizon 2020 Brexit update
Please note that the result of the UK referendum on EU membership and the invoking of Article 50 have no immediate effect on UK applications to Horizon 2020 (H2020) or on UK participation in current H2020 projects. Imperial academics should therefore continue to apply to all three pillars of H2020 as normal. As has been confirmed by the UK Government and by the European Commission, the UK continues to have all the rights, obligations and benefits of EU membership, including receiving Horizon 2020 funding, up until the date the UK leaves the EU. This is expected to be on 29th March 2019 following the UK Government invoking Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty on 29th March 2017 and thus starting the two-year formal UK exit negotiations from the EU.
Further reassurance for UK H2020 applicants has been provided by the UK Chancellor’s statement on 13 August 2016 confirming that ‘Horizon research funding granted before we leave the EU will be guaranteed by the Treasury after we leave’. This means that UK participants, and their partners, can be certain that all H2020 grants awarded before the UK leaves the EU will be fully funded for their entire duration. Please contact the RO EU Team if you have any queries about H2020. If you are discouraged by European partners from leading or participating in H2020 consortia, we would be interested to hear about this please.
